Artist’s Statement
“Battle on Long Island Sound 1776” was painted in response to a call for entries in The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, American Heritage Competition. My action-packed painting depicts a sea battle between a Patriot Privateer and a British Ship of War on Long Island Sound. It is a realistic painting with colors that are stormy and brooding; however, the sky opens and sunbeams shine a light on my Revolutionary War Patriot’s ship as it overtakes and defeats a British Ship of War. The Patriot Privateer closes in on a British Ship with one final canon shot that cripples and captures the enemy vessel, removing one more British menace to the American Colonies.

wonderful, truly fine work!
