Featured Art: Nature’s Patterns

Intricate painting with bold colors

“Nature’s Patterns” by Chandana Srinath, Diablo-Alameda Branch
Acrylic, 31.5 x 21.5

Artist’s Statement:

My work expresses native folk art from different parts of India. It showcases nature intertwined with humans. My work mostly depicts birds, animals, nature, and way of life. It’s composed of intricate patterns and vibrant colors. It includes different styles of painting such as Warli, Gond, Madhubani, Pithora, and others.

I’ve been doing this kind of art since my childhood. Mostly, I used natural colors like turmeric, charcoal, rice flour, and hibiscus on paper, but lately I’ve been using acrylic and oil colors as well. For “Nature’s Patterns,” I visualized symmetric patterns, shapes with different animals and birds. I used earthly colors to showcase the original folk art. Most of the animals, birds, and flowers in the artwork bring good luck. This started as a small project but took me almost three months to complete.
