Join Our Monthly Zoom Meetings
By Laura Walth, Des Moines Branch President

My active participation in Pen Women is largely motivated by the inspiration I derive from numerous members who remain engaged well into their 90s, as well as the many young members who keep our organization moving forward.
The late Dorothy Timmons, a member of our Des Moines Branch, lived to 101 and even hosted a meeting at her home when she was 100 years old. Another Des Moines branch member, ML Hopson, believed that paying dues allowed her to remain involved, despite being unable to attend meetings, up until her passing at 91. Some may recall the late Polly Dages from the Yucca Branch, who attended the Biennial in Washington, DC, in 2016, accompanied by an aide while she was in her late 90s.
There are many other such members who have undoubtedly contributed significantly to the legacy of the National League of American Pen Women, Inc. It’s encouraging to see so many younger members willing to continue this legacy of longevity.
Interacting with creative women of all ages has been a motivating factor when hosting monthly Zoom meetings for the NLAPW members across the country. This began as a means of connecting with members-at-large over five years ago. It now includes all members and nonmembers interested in finding out more about NLAPW. Branch presidents are asked to forward the Zoom links to their members. As the Zoom host, I have also had an opportunity to connect with the headquarters in D.C. We work together to keep the email lists up to date.
Join us at our monthly Zoom meetings to meet Pen Women of all ages from across the country.
