I recently finished what I call a “62nd Birthday Challenge.” On Aug. 7, I turned 62 and why, I don’t know, but I decided to challenge myself to do 62 paintings by Oct. 7. I’m somewhat of a new visual artist. I’m actually a recording artist and chair of music in our Greenwich Branch, Connecticut.

On Christmas morning 2018, my husband put pastels in my Christmas stocking. Mind you, I never did pastels and was confused why they were in my stocking, along with paper, in a gift-wrapped box. I didn’t blow it off and decided to go on YouTube to learn. Let’s just say, the rest is history.

I’m totally hooked and within no time at all, people wanted to buy my artwork. Recently I started doing watercolor as well. My challenge became a learning opportunity. I posted my paintings and even went as far as requesting pictures from friends for inspiration. I’ve sold seven pieces of art so far in this challenge and finally completed my 62nd piece, called “Nurturing in the Light.”

It amazes me to see all the comments and words of encouragement I received from Facebook friends! I started the challenge on Aug. 13. In spite of two vacations, a retreat/conference I had to lead, and a host of other commitments, I finished a day early. Wooooo hooooo!
