I taught all forms of art to students from kindergarten to seniors for 30 years. Personally, though, my passion was pottery. But my master’s thesis project was something I had never done before, painting in oil. I quickly decided that brushes did not work for me, so all my paintings are done with a palette knife.

This image resulted from an autumn visit to relatives in Brevard, North Carolina. They were kind enough to drive me all over the mountain in search of painting possibilities. I captured this image of the sunset over the Davidson River and it became my next painting.
