Featured Poem: Self-Talk

By Dorothy Atkins

I am doing well and looking forward to doing better.

Just begun to live

Love the place I am.

Cherish my choice of happiness.

Laughing at my experiences

Dismiss the unwanted

Love with desire.

Laugh with abandonment.

Take a chance on change.

Love the body I have.

Appreciate the passage of time.

Free myself of guilt

Hold reverently to loved ones.

Make my own beginnings.

Trust my instincts

Feel joy.

Remove regrets.

Sing praise.

Allow hope.

There is within this poem, a list of New Year resolutions I need to adopt! Good reminders of how to live gracefully.

  2. Barbara Dunham says:

Having survived a near fatal accident, and spending 3 months in rehab nearly immobile, followed by another 3 months of physical therapy, I celebrate your words. I needed them. And I thank you & NLAPW for providing them. 2026. New beginnings.

  3. Nancy Haskett says:

Such positive thoughts for new beginnings. I particularly like dismissing the unwanted and allowing hope. This is, indeed, a talk we can all give to ourselves — an affirmation to start each day, not just a new year.
