2019 Submissions Open through September 30

Recipients will be notified by December 15

 

The National League of American Pen Women, Inc. awards three grants of $1,000 each in art, letters, and music to women 35 years of age or older who are not now nor ever have been a member of NLAPW.

In addition to the grant, recipients will receive a two-year Honorary Associate membership in NLAPW.

Applicants may not have been previously granted a Biennial Grant for Mature Women.

To apply by mail or email:

1. Please send any type of proof of age.

2. Enclose or attach a one-page cover letter describing how you intend to use the grant money and any pertinent information about yourself.

3. Please provide your name, address, telephone number, and email address on the cover page of your submission.

4. Submit your entry:

By mail:  Send a check or money order for $35 made payable to NLAPW to: NLAPW, 1300 17th Street NW, Washington, D. C. 20036-1901. Please indicate on the check Mature Women’s Grant. On your envelope, please indicate the submission category and chair’s name: Mary Lou Griffin (art), Nancy Dafoe (letters), or Kathy Pate (music). Enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope with sufficient postage for the return of your submission (if you wish to have your submission returned).

Submissions Guidelines

Art entries: Submit three images of your artwork in oils, watercolor, acrylic mixed media, photography, or sculpture. All work must be original. Online digital submissions preferred. Please attach three jpegs of your work to your email. Subject of your email should read Mature Woman Grant Submission. Include your artist statement in addition to the information listed above.

Letters entries: Submit, via mail or email, either published or unpublished manuscript in any or all of the following categories: article, drama, essay, first chapter of a novel or excerpt from nonfiction book, short story, three poems, television script excerpt. Entry should not exceed 5,000 words.

Music entries: Submit two compositions: three-minute minimum performance time, five-minute maximum performance time, via CD by mail or as MP3 files via email (please limit size per file to 5 MB).

NLAPW Reschedules the 50th Biennial for April-May 2021

The 50th Biennial, originally planned for April 2020, had to be rescheduled due to COVID-19. The new dates are April 30-May 2, 2021. More information will be posted as it becomes available.

The Pen Woman Receives MarCom Award

Gold-winner-bugThe Pen Woman magazine recently received a Gold MarCom Award for design in the print media, magazine category. Additionally, the NLAPW Biennial 2018 Program received honorable mention for design in the print media, program guide category. The 2019 competition had more than 6,500 entries — including from many large, prominent enterprises and nonprofits — from 20 countries. Congrats, The Pen Woman!
